This was just started to sort of keep track of who breeds what,to help out people looking for breeding information and also maybe provide members with a source/person to buy hard to find species from.

B: Black Convicts

I know they're supposed to be able to breed in anything wet, but I was still pretty surprised to see them breeding already. These are my first breeding fish, I'm pretty excited.

BE CAREFUL!!! In August my Convicts spawned and that was my first breeding pair too. Now I've gotten myself in trouble to the tune of 14 tanks and I'm working with the following:

B: Alonacara Usisya(Steveni-Flauvesant)
B: Stiped/Marble/Pink Convicts
B: Jack Dempsey
A: Firemouth
A: Haplocromis sp. Tomato
A: Haplocromis sp. Ruby Green
A: Haplocromis sp. Obiquedens(anybody know how these are classified since they apparently never made it into the hobby)

It seems as if alot of work needs to be done with lake victorian cichlids and many do not have acurate scientific names yet

The breeder I got them from told me that they are being called "Thick Skins". He actually said that that is a group needing further classification. Lake Victoria is a big lake, so I do wonder how they can claim that the Obliquedens is extinct, unless of course the whole lake is already dead. I heard it's getting a little better but that discussion is for another thread in another area. ;-)

actually last I heard they wanted to redlist all victorians so they can't be exported at all anymore - they claim over 30% of it's cichlids have gone extinct in the last 20 years.

have you thought about synodontis catfish? your Victorian haps would make great hosts for this aquatic cuckoo.

Yes, I've been wanting to get a trio or so for each tank. I found some at a convenience store for $5.00 each. That's better than the $20 I saw a 3" one going for yesterday. Maybe I should check aquabid but I've noticed people don't like to ship when it's so cold...

Instead of Redlisting the Victorians they should take what's left from the lake before it's totally dead and breed them for reintroduction if/when they ever get it straightened out. What they really need to do is get rid of that darn Nile Perch. I bought a fillet at the store a couple months ago just to get some revenge. I must say it wasn't that good. I prefer nice Michigan Lake Perch... To stay on the subject: Is anyone else trying to breed Victorians or know of a good place online to get them?

I just made a deal to get a breeding group of
Pundamilia nyererei (formerly Haplocromis nyererei) and some Lipochromis parvidens - Red parvidens

they should take what's left from the lake before it's totally dead and breed them for reintroduction if/when they ever get it straightened out

From the few people I talk to that have actually made it to see the area or who import from there it seems there are quit a few farms set up there now that catch wild cichlids - breed them then restock 80% and sell off 20%,then start the cycle over - thats supposeldy the only legal way fish can be exported now - but enforcement supposedly isn't going to well.

Victorians or know of a good place online to get them?

what are you looking for ? theres a few people locally but it's pretty much a limited variety and they're not to cheap theres about 5 stores locally that have victorians from time to time cheap too but alot of the local breeders say they're either cross bred or mislabeled

I'm on the third batch of Labidochromis caeruleus now. I haven't sold any yet, but I'm trying to arrange a trade with another breeder to improve my gene pool. The plan now is to concentrate on L. caeruleus and Nimbochromis venustus in my 180 gallon. N. venustus has to be my favourite cichlid: intelligent, bold, great colours (especially in natural light), will eat from my hands, will even tolerate being stroked.

One of my kuhli loaches is gravid The other one in that tank may well be a male, but I'm not taking any chances so I've ordered another six adults. They will arrive tomorrow I also plan to add my other nine juvenile kuhlis to that tank whenever I catch them

My bristlenose pleco breeding project suffered a setback last week when my gravid female got stuck behind the heater and cooked herself. I cheered myself up by buying three more clown plecos (Panaque maccus) and ordering a trio of Zebra plecos (Hypancistrus zebra). They also arrive tomorrow morning Last month I bought four juvenile Flash panaques to go with my adult male and I picked up a male Tiger Peckoltia to go with my female peckoltia, so I've got a good selection of potential breeders in my pleco tanks, although it may well take a lot longer to get off the ground than my cichlid breeding projects.

Good luck with the zebra plecos,keep us updated of how they do.I was going to try those also but my extra room ended up filled with other projects.

Well, the zebra plecos arrived a couple of days ago and they are settling in nicely. They are so cute, kind of like freshwater cuttlefish. Don't hold your breath for any fry, though. These fish are tiny. TINY. It's going to be a couple of years before they even think about reproducing.
