20 gallons is about the bare minimum. You would be asking for trouble to breed them in a 10g. Even better would be a 29 or 30 if you are looking to raise thee fry in the same tank (really cool). Godd luck!!!!
I have also bred cons in a 10 gallon with no prob. If you plan on using the fry for anything other than amusement though, another 10 gallon or better would be a good idea for the fry once they get growing.
If you are going to put them in a 10 gallon make sure you have another tank to put the fry in and another tank so you can seperate them.
I bred mine in a 10 gallon and it worked great for about 5 months and just a few weeks ago my male decided he had enough. I beat my female almost to death. She now has no tail and missing the lower fin. I thought that her tail wouldn't regrow but I'm starting to see ti coming back so I have hope.
Learn from my mistake have a place for you female to run to where the male can't get her or vice versa.
I know this has nothing to do with the tank size, but while you're on the subject, do they start to breed after the females get orange on their stomachs?
My daughter has too much of a "social life" and I'm taking over her convicts.
Maybe this is a stupid question but do female pink convicts get color when they're ready to breed? Also, if you cross breed a pink and black convict what are the resulting fry like and are they acceptable in the hobby or "rejects". Thanks for any info.
yes pink females will get bright pink or orange on the belly, i had a black male and a pink female the babies all just looked like faded out blacks, when i get home i'll try and post a pic, i still have one of the offspring, he may be a half breed but i still like him, i don't know how it is in your area but around here you can't hardly give cons away:mad:
