Question about a fish I just got.

Postby jeffsspace on Tue May 27, 2003 10:03 am

I just got four fish from a friend of mines and they are all in hte same family of the Red Devil except they are much more aggresive than a RD. I know that is hard to believe but just trust me on this one. They are. I have a very aggesive Red Devil that killed everything in the tank but he got whipped when I put him against my frineds fish. The guy I got them from breeds this particular brand of fish and he has basically mixed breeded them to the point that they are not receptive to other fish. They will only stay with their kind and only the strong survive. I wanted to know if anybody knows of the name of this fish. I know it is a citrinellum for sure but I don't know what kind. I don't have a picture but I will do my best to explain what the look like. They remind me of a Texas Blue but with 3-5 spots on them in a line accross each side. Any held would be appreciated but I do understand that I have not given you all much to go off of. Than anyway.

I agree but that is not a red devil at all they dont even look close. If it looks like a firehorn it could also be a trimac, they look almost exactly alike. Here is a pic of a trimac http://www.cichlidinfo.com/database/profile2.php?table=america&id=12 It is in the same genus as the RD and citrinellum (midas) but totally different colors.

What are you talking about what kind of citrinellum? I assume you are talking about Amphilophus citrinellus aka Midas Cichlid. Red Devils and Midas are often crossed and sold as either Red Devil or Midas Cichlid. There is not different types of Amphilophus citrinellus. Maybe you are talking about a color variation of the same fish because RD/Midas come in a bunch of different colors ranging from a white-red marble to solid yellow.

flower horn image from flowerhorn.com flowerhorns also come in red, gold, green,rd looking, midas looking, trimac looking, texas looking and more. - unfortunatly theres as many different types of flowerhorns as someone imagineination will let there be

I knoe for sure it is a citrinellum but I just don't know what kind

Like has already been mentioned there's only
one type of citrinellus. but theres several flowerhorns (hybrids) that are crossed/made with reddevils/midas and several other crosses or combinations.
