Or know where to get 30-06 shells bigger then 180grain.

Hahaha, ok how about in English for us beginners? All I know is 22 or 308 what's up with grain....whole wheat?

30-06 is a hunting riffle (similar to a 7mm )



grain(s) are the actual weight of the projectile that leaves when you shoot.

Most small guns like 22's,380 and etc,, I belive only come in standard sizes (weights)

Most larger guns like 30-06's 30/30's,357's and etc.. come in different grain sizes (weights) - sort of like how shotgun slugs come in different sizes,but shotguns they use ounces,riffles and big handguns the use grains.

Ok, so when would you go with a heavier grain slug? or would you always want it to be as heavy as you can get them?(for stopping power)

Cabela's only has 120-180 but their store up there in Michigan is Cool now that I see they sell tracer rounds I'll have to go back lol

180's big enough for anything up to bear, but yeah basically the bigger you go the more stopping power or hole makeing power The other thing is (with 30-06 anyways) bigger grain shells don't go as far so even though they can do more damage,they're safer to shoot. If that makes sense? Like I shoot my 30-06 on private property thats only about 2 miles wide, once I get 1/2 mile off the road to be safe and legal ,the range of 160 grain (or less) shells is about 1.5 miles makes it questionable to if a target gets missed it could hit something else but 180grains are supposed to drop down in range to under a mile 220's supposedly drop to .5 mile in range.If you hit something a 220 will shred it so they're about worthless for hunting but it's less to worry about as far as shoot throughs and acidental over shots.
Since Ohio hunting riffle Laws SUCK I don't worry about what shells are good for hunting,I use my 12gauge for that,unless I go hunting somewhere else.

Yea, makes sense, figured so....anyway in the small caliber range there really isn't a choice of grain right? Like for LR 22 or magnum 22 etc....I usually use my friends' guns when I go shooting but thinking of getting a 22 I went to a gun shop one day thinking to buy and walk out with one only to get the 10day story, sucks, I like being able to shoot without ear plugs and the 308 was just too loud.
