I am just learning the same stuff you are asking about but for my 62 gallon tank. I have an Aquaclear 500 (which I assume is about the same or a bit larger than yours) and I have been told this will not be adequate for my size tank with oscars. You will need to up grade.

I have a new thread and when I get the information on the proper filtration that I need, I will then forward it on to you.

No, I don't have any fish in the tank yet. Cripes! I haven't even put the water in it yet. I am doing as much research as possible before I buy the oscar. It has been over 15 yrs since I have had a tank and I am very rusty.

I have decided to go with a tiger oscar and am still deciding which type of pleco will be best to go with him/her.
