There was someone else earlier who posted that her oscar would eat all but one feeder goldfish and keep the last one as a companion when it finally died it repeated this with the next bunch of feeder that went in the tank keeping one as a pal. You may just have very "moral" fish that didnt want to eat any pregnant women or children, perhaps your O's are religious,
