Help, heater question

Postby dor476 on Tue Jan 28, 2003 8:14 am

For 8 yrs my heater has been on the same temp (aprox 77). Just two days ago I upped it to 80 due to Oscar having hith (I did the salt temp up thingy). I had a vicious case of body fungus (not me of course...icky!) and had to treat the tank, this left one O w/hith....so I'm now treating for that, after the water change to remove the rest of meds from body fungus time. Geez...things go well for years then all of a sudden......
Anyway my question is this: how long do heaters last? The temp in my tank seems to be unsteady going from 75ish to 78ish. It never ever fluctuated before I changed the temp, I'm not sure if it's coisidence that it's happening now and the heater is acually going or something else. Anyone have a clue? Oh heater was bought new 8yrs ago.

I'd buy a new one just to play it safe if your haveing doubts about an 8hr old heater, sounds like you got your money's worth out of the current one anyways. It'd be a real bummer to lose an oscar to a bad heater after you clear up everything else.

Moved to equipment, you'll probaly get more replies on heaters there

Help, heater question

Thanks, I guess you're right...better to be safe than sorry. I wasn't sure how long heaters were suppose to last. I'm guessing from your statement I did pretty well to get 8 years out of it. I'll head to pet store tomorrow and get a new one.
