Tattoos

I have always been a fan of tattoos and pericings. I turned 18 last Wed. and I got my first tattoo on my Bday. It is one of many logos for a tattoo/body modification site ( http://www.bmezine.com ). I got mine on the back of my calf. It's kinda tribal looking. So I think I will stick with the tribal theme and get my whole lower leg done. It's sooo addicting, I want more right now! Anyway, just curious if any other people out there have tattoos? I already know a few people on here do.

I should warn you that many people REGRET ever getting tattoos when they were young.......it will cost you money later in life when you want to get rid of it.......but I guess it may take a while before it goes from "cool" to "embarrassing".........

It really depends on the person if they are going to regret their tattoo. Personally I've been going through hundreds of designs to find the perfect one. I think that it has to mean some thing special to you. It just can't be a spur of the moment thing. I know a lot of people who have had their tattoos for over 15 years and they still love them because they ment some thing special to that person.
Then theres the people that got a tattoo because they are cool. Now they absolutly hate them, but don't have the cash for a removal.
I've got mine narrowed down to a few but they just don't seem to fit exactly what I want so its still going to be quite a while before I finally make up my mind.

Why? Why does it have to mean something? Why can't you have it because you like it? Mine means absolutely nothing. I have been looking into tattoos for about 3 years. I know all the problems that come with tattoos and what happens when you get older. This isn't by any means my last and only tattoo. This is not something I jumped into. I have read and read The next time I have the money, I plan on getting started on my whole leg.You base your statements on what few people have said. I have talked to loads of guys that have over $20,000 of tattoos and most of them mean nothing at all. Some of the guys I talked to are well over 50 years old. They still love all thier tattoos. Who says everybody will regret thier tattoos if they mean nothing?I'm not in it to be cool. I do it because I like it. I am getting tattos because I like them, no other reason at all. My state of mind is much different than most people. I don't give a damn what anybody thinks. If they ask me what it means, I say "nothing". That's the truth. I got it because I liked it. I will get all my others based soley(sp) on the fact that I like them. Maybe some day I will get some that actually means something to me.

Sorry if I offended you CK I was just stating my opinion. That's my personal view. I realize that there is a lot of people who have Tats and they don't mean and thing. I just think that something that I'm going to put on my body should at least represent some thing.
Any tattoo somebody gets still represents something. Their own personality.

Tattoos

Postby DonB on Thu Dec 12, 2002 7:41 pm

I think everyone here is right, to an extent. Im 41 years old, and have about 15 tats. I got my first when I was 17, and my last when I was about 35. I have never regretted them, however, I have had times when I wish they were not as obvious. I have 4 on each arm, in clear view when wearing a short sleeve shirt, and the rest on my chest and back. Everyone of my tats represent a period or situation in my life, and I wouldnt change them, or that particular situation, for anything! Thats part of your history. The sad part about "body modifications" is that people judge. There's not a damn thing we can do about it, it happens. The perfect example is on job interviews. Regardless if you like it or not, when you walk into a room, people form an opinion of you. Tats generally leave a "non-conformist" opinion with others. My only advise to anyone is to make sure the tat you get is the one(s) you really want...its there forever. And, I would reccommend putting them in places that if you want people to see them they can, and if you dont, you can cover them up! I know that may sound hypocritical (sp) but Im just speaking from experience! Oh, btw, I ride a Harley too...imagine the impression I leave :D ;) !

DonB definitly is right. You should make sure that you can hide any tattoos because in a lot of business fields if any show they won't higher you. A friend of mine is in charge of looking a applicants at the law office she works at(she's not an attorney). I have asked her how much tattoos affect if a person will get higher or not. She told me that if they are visible in any type of clothes they would where to work they are not even considered.
I've decided where I want mine, it's going to be right between my shoulder blades.
CK the calfs another good spot to have a tattoo because no one will see it unless you are in shorts no one will know. Good choice.
I haven't said it before but I do like your tattoo. Guess it didn't come across that way.

another thing to consider is the competence of the tattooist who is doing the work - my first tattoo turned out to be, well, shit... fortunately i was able to have it covered with another design - i don't regret getting the tattoo done, i just regret getting it done by the person who did it.

that doesn't even make any sense. I didn't say the tattooist did the wrong design, just the one he did wasn't what it could have been.
