Hi guys,
I have a chance to buy a 6x2x2 tank and stand for 300 bucks Aussie (roughly 150 us) The thing is that the guy who has it has been keeping a snake in there and hasnt had water in it for about 14-16 months. Now i dont wanna get this thing home and fill it up only to find that i am about to get 180g of water on the floor or that the tank is contanimated with something due to the previous occupant. Has anyone had any exp with this type of thing?

Thanks,

Mick.

I wouldn't worry about any contamination, you can chlorinate it if you want. Pay him half up front and half after you fill it up at home. Or have him fill it up for you first so you can see it doesn't leak.

I got the tank, talked the guy down from 300 to 230 Aussie for it, pretty good buy i think. Its in good condition except it has sticker stuck on the outside about loving cats and cats tasting like chicken - it apparently had a 9.5ft Diamond python or something in there.
How does that sound for a 180 gallon tank and stand?? Its not for me, its for my sisters boyfriend,, needs a new home for his barramundi its outgrown its 65 gallon tank.

Thanks,

Mick.

You wouldnt want to know what I haggle people down for their used tanks. LOL
Yeah $230 isnt too bad for that sized tank. Long as there are no chips or suss lookng marks on the bottom and all the braces are intacked. Any minor leaks can be fixed with silicone and resealing a tank is fairly easy as long as you take your time dismantling it and cleaning off old silicone.
I usually leave them outside for a few day full of water to access any work needed.

Most of my tanks are secondhand or ones that I have repaired, replaced crack glass etc and pay squat for them.

Yeah defeniatly sterilze after haveing a snake in it as they are germy things that contaminate tanks badly
