Synodontis Eupterus (Feather Finned Catfish)

Postby Jimco1822 on Tue Jan 08, 2002 2:47 am

I found a couple of these guys today at one of the lfs' in town..

I liked them because they looked pretty cool and they seemed to be quite busy cleaning the bottom of their tank.

They're about 2" and the while the guy said he didnt know much about them, he said they are very peaceful.

I put them in with my albino O who's just slightly smaller, and am watching them closely...

I read a profile on them that says they max out at about 6" so I'm not sure how they are going to do with my O as he grows.

If anyone has any experience with these cool guys, please let me know...

Thanks
Jim.

I am not firmiliar with the species per say but I have a pictus carfish in with my O's that is about 3/4 their length... They generally ignore him, though some times they need to show him they are boss and nudge him with their noses... nothing even remotely violent... this is pretty much the case with all bottom dwelling fish, O's pretty much ignore them unless they are grossly smaller then they see them as a meal.

Wow.... Laughing here.... Thats exactally the response of my O,, He gave a curious nudge, as if to say, "My Tank" and I felt the same way, It didnt look aggressive at all.
Thanks Adam.

Very nice the feather fins Image
They are an African from the white nile and Tchad basin usually only get aggressive with each other in large groups and not much to worry about if you got hidey holes etc.
The female usually ends up fatter than the male who is slimmer.

Ph 6.2-7.5
temp 72 to 80f

Thanks Tony.

They do seem really nice. And are almost as busy as my Cory's..

In the event that my O out grows them and becomes aggressive, I can put them in my community tank.

But right now they seem to be doing fine, cleaning up all that messy beef heart mixture...

Thanks
Jim
