Melafix works great for bacterial problems . . .are you sure its not fungal though? If it started as a skin disease Im willing to bet its probably fungal, if its is its been given enough time to spread to the gills causing respiration problems. Do not rasie the temperature of the tank in this situation, as raising the temp causes a decrease in the amount of O2 carried in the water. I would hurry out to the lfs and get a strong fungal medication, and if you can increase the ariation in the tank by adding more bubble wands.

heavy breathing

i have this medicine called Maracyn by Mardel Labs and i treats body fungus, gill disease and all kinds of other things. a five day treatment is 1 tablet for every 10g once a day. for a 8 tab box i think it was about $5. it worked on my cichlids when they had an outbreak of body fungus. i says the tabs r quick disolving but they werent for me so if they r still there after a hour just break the tab up in your hand.

P.S. if it is possible put the sick oscar in a hospital tank that is already cycled and everything.

GOOD LUCK Image
