Hi you guys, what a great site.

I have a challenge for you HITH experts.
In another forum there is a Manguence in big trouble:

It seems as this happened in only 2 weeks. I recomended Adams article (great article)to the mannies dad, but he's not sure it is HITH. What do you expert say?

HITH ????

Postby C4 on Wed Jan 09, 2002 3:45 pm

It appears to be HITH. And he says it only happened in 2 weeks . . .I don't think so personally. The divits themselves appear not to be that deep, but what is very worrying to be is that they have spread, and are not localized only along the head, which makes it more severe. As you can see they are moving along the body. This fish has a severe problem and I wonder if it is limited to just HITH.

Possiably HITH with a fungal infection. When A fish has HITH they are prone to many other secondary infections.

Could you please give us more information on this fish. Diet, tankmates, size and water perimeters.

Also another picture of the whole body would be helpfull.

HITH ????

Postby Ice on Wed Jan 09, 2002 4:16 pm

Thanks C4 for fast responce.

This is his description of his tank:

"My water never goes over 20 ppm nitrate, I don't use carbon, have a bare-bottom tank, never feed live food, do feed a varied diet including 3 brands of pellets, beefheart, and bloodworms (and earthworms in season). The only steps I haven't taken that were suggested at that site were the addition of salt and vitamins. If this is HITH disease, it is the fastest advancing case on record!"

He is refering to Adams site(HITH site).
The mannie is alone in the tank, it kills everything in sight.

how about more pictures....hard to tell if it's a film, or indentation etc....fuzzy or milky...anyway if cause is not established I usually recommend firing all your guns...do the salt treatment, raise the temp, try anti-parastic meds antibiotics etc... and even maybe something for fungus......

gimme enough bullets and I'll hit any target Image

HITH ????

Of what I have seen of HITH and what I know of it, I am not convinced by that one picture that is what we are dealing with... First of all HITH does not appear over 2 days (though if you watch your fish enough you should see signs after a few days), second of all it would take months for it to become so advanced that the majority of the face was effected as the picture shows.

It is my opinion that it is some sort of fungal or bacterial infection, and would recommend treating with salt, heat, and a general type cure. Also it might be wise to treat his food with Metrondinizole (sp?), just in case to take out the worry of internal parasites.
