Hole in the Head

Postby fay on Mon Nov 26, 2001 12:14 pm

I have 4 large oscars in a 120 gal tank. One developed wounds between the eyes and eventually had to be put down I was treating with Melafix. Now two more have developed these small wounds (as yet) Is this a parasite as someone told me Hole In The Head? I have no pet store near. Help quickly please as I don't want to lose any more pets.

Best thing for HITH is Dont feed feeder fish, high quality cichlid pellets only, take all carbon from the filters,do a 40% water change and treat with an antibiotic called Metronidazole at a rate of 250mg per 10 gallons of water.Metronidazole is available as many brands such as Flagyl and Metrogyle. Its used for both human and animal treatment so your local GP or Vet can help you out most likely.

Thanks. I may be able to get the Metronidazole from the vet tomorrow and will start the water change tonight.
