My oscars left eye is swollen and seems to be bulging out of it head. There is a white at the base were its swollen. I tried Maracyn-2 but no help

test you water parrammanters and adjust as neeeded.
Popeye can take a few treatments to heal and the oscar usually ends up blind in that eye

You mean 3 full 5 day treatments of the Maracyn-2? So I should do it for 15 days instead of the 5 days it says? Also I put in some copper safe today to try to help since he is prolly stressed out. I took him out of the 125g and stuck him in a 20g hospital tank. I am doing everything okay? I REALLY dont want this fish to die. They are like my dogs

Sounds like you are doing everything right.
Yeah try 2 5 day treatments but after the first one do a 40% water change and place carbon in the filter for a day then re do the medication,after removing the carbon. This is so you dont overdose the tank Make sure you have plenty of air and water movement in the hospital tank.

Yeah I know how you feel about the oscar, I worry at the slightest mark on mine.

Well so far its onlt getting worse Also hes not eating and I dont think he can see outta the eye that is swollen. Anything else i could do?

The pop-eye medication didnt do anything? Protruding eyes can be symptoms of abdominal dropsy and tuburculosis, both basicly incurable. You might try treating with a med that claims to be effective against bloat, or dropsy and see if that helps at all...

The medicine I gave it also had that listed. Also now instead of just being swollen it inda looks irregular in shape. Like a cyst on the swollen part

Hmm I am a bit stumped I must say... if it is not responding to medication at all then it is likely not a treatable disorder... there are other things that can cause this like tumors and such that either run their course or claim the fishes life. I think the only thing you can do is feed a highly varied vitamin enriched diet and hope that you can kick start his immune system to fight whatever this is off... That and keep the water very very clean.

Nothing you can really do, well if you were a millionaire I guess you could take it to a surgeon and see what they can do but just keep the water crystal clean, at the right ph and temp, try to keep feeding it though, if it doesn't like something try another food etc...sometimes when sick they are too lazy to eat....

I did 3 Maracine2 treatments so far but I decided to take him off the meds for awhile and see if tat helps any. Give him a week a no meds. Also I been doing 40% water changes about once every 4-5 days. What Im started to think happened is his tankmates may have beat him up or soething and maybe it got infected real ad. I dunno. Al I know is that the 2 bullys are pcking on the other one now. May have to buy another tank and hope i have a place to put it. 125g must not be big enough for 4 oscars or maybe the 2 bullys are paired up and guarding or something. Im stumped completely.

Went and had my fish looked at today by a breeder and he said it looked like he was bit in the eye and it got infected. He said to put neosporan on the eye every day for 1-2 weeks and to have 50% water changes every 3 days.

On a side note I tested my water in the main tank:

Nitrate 20ppm
Ammonia 0ppm
PH 7.3

What you think of his advice and water peramiters?

It is very possible that the eye simply got scraped on a decoration or the gravel and then was just inflamed. I wouldnt recommend handling your fish as much as the LFS employee is suggesting, that would probably cause enough stress to kill the fish, over a simple problem that would probably go away on its own if given the chance... just go with heat, salt and water changes as treatment, and possibly some melafix if your concerned about infection.

Okay Ill just try that then. I thought it was weird he suggested neosporan in the first place. Thats why i came here to ask you guys. Ill go get some melafix tonight and start him on that to see if it helps. Another thing I wanted to ask is if you think biospere would help?

I'm not firmiliar with that product so I cant really give you any advice about it.

Has the eye gotten any better or any worse since you first posted?

It has pretty much stayed the same for the most part. Sometimes it seems to flare up and get worse then goes back to just being bad. At this point Im willing to try anything. I feel bad for the fish. Being in that small tank sick and not eating with that eye. Seems to be getting smaller.
