Anyone here ever use southdown playsand, or have you guys heard about it? How much sand is needed for a 30 gal tank, and how deep does the sandbed need to be?

If you can get ahold of Southdown sand USE IT!! It is the same exact sand that your LFS will sell you, at a fraction of the price. I cant say for sure how much sand you will need to make a 4" depth because I need the length and width measurements, but going off rough estimates I would get 100 lbs of sand and add until you are close and return any unused bags.

I'm supposed to be getting some Southdown. The nearest Home Depot that carries it is in WV which is about 8 hours from me. They are gonna send me and a friend some down. I ordered 2 bags which is 100lbs. It's only $4.98 a bag .

well today at Lowe's i bought 100 lbs. of Quickcrete play sand, it wasnt the kind that had silica in it, there was 2 types, one said it had silica in it and the other didnt say if it did or not. should it be safe in my 30 gallon set up?

oh sorry well they were both quickcrete brands too
