Well my entire stock of fish save my purple tang which I think started the whole mess, is dead. My last clown fish died today... Word of warning to would be saltwater goers... salt water ich is way more deadly then fresh water, you have basicly 24-48 hours to cure it before the fish dies. Strangely enough all my levels are at 0 so it's not my water, the only thing I can think is that the purple tang developed it after I moved him from quarentine.

I lost: 2 clown fish, 1 tierra batfish, 1 potter's angel. roughly $100 worth of fish... I am not happy right now but at least I will never make this mistake again.

Dont most of the lfs`s that sell these things treat them for ich b4 selling them?
I hear that a lot of good ones do before picking them up.

Yeah the place I get my fish from are really good about selling healthy fish however the purple tang is notorious for getting ich, actually all tangs are very suceptable. And I rushed the quarentine time because I was going on vacation for a week, which was my mistake... oh well chalk it up to experiece I guess.

Sorry I have been having a few troubles with the computer so on and so forth and havent been able tog et on lately.

In saltwater tanks you have to keep a good eye out for ich at all times in the first 6 months of getting the tank established after the tank has been setup for about 6 months without any problem then you can lay back a little as long as you keep your water conditions right, and as long as you dont keep ich prone fish.

Tangs. The powder blue.....the regal.....and the purple tang are really ichy......they will get it if you frighten them when you walk up to the tank....ok so i exagurated a little but that is a real pain.

Saltwater ich tends so spread a little faster although I dont think that you only have 24-48 hours to cure it it is worse than freshwater. My 125 has had ich for a week before I did anything.....it wasn't a good idea b/c it was really bad by then but my god i was busy.....and Broke! I just two days ago had to treat the 125 again for ich b/c of that powder blue tang.

I agree adam it was probably the move.....There is really no way to get a purple tang without ich b/c even if the lfs does cure it then on the way home it will develope it again unless you happen to be one of the few lucky ones. Sorry to hear about your troubles but I think the best move now is preventitive matininence...in other words get rid of that tang if you can.

Thanks for all the info and for taking on moderation of this saltwater section. I've never kept any saltwater myself, but who knows, once I read about all these kind of experiences from you and Adam I might be up and and ready and hopefully prepared for the challenge sometime in the future. Those saltwater fish really do look great, can't find that kind of great coloring in freshwater.
