I use an algea magnet called a mad-float I believe. Some magnets lose the connection easily and will sink to the bottom and when you get them back together the one at the bottom of the tank picks up substrate and sctratches the crap out of yuor tank. That is what is unique about the mad loat if it loses conection(which it very rarely does) the one inside floats to the top. this is also helpful in getting it out and putting it in.
I find the algea magnets far more convienent and effective on the glass.
I've also heard that the "twister" is a good magnet.

yah use one too and they are the best if you dont have a natural way to get rid of algae. that thing is so powerful when i try to put them together slowly, it splashes up water pretty high. mine cant float so theres a string attached to the magnet that goes inside the tank.

Dethmunkee, thanks! I previously checked the magnet prices on bigalsonline.com and they're quite expensive for the good ones. (over $100.00) I wanted to check with you all to see if the investment is worth it. I would need a big magnet because my aquarium is 200 gal. My O's and yorkies moved from the bay area 10 months ago. I envy you!
