As a first time oscars owner, I found out yesterday that two of my three oscars had laid some eggs after finding the eggs in my filter during cleaning. That was really saddening! I had no idea that they were breeding and never dropped in a slate rock; the aquarium had gravel and an undergravel filter. That only thing I noticed was that the tank got really cloudy, and during the weekly water change, I noticed that the water was greasy.
Does anyone have any idea how often oscars breed? Do I have to wait another year? And how should I prepare and what should I do the next time I suspect that they will breed?

Hey CHUCK, by the way, even though the last time they spawned they caught me by surprise again and water was dirty, I did have a "few" of the oscar fry still left. I wish they'd just tell me like a month in advance EXACTLY Which day they plan to lay Eggs!.....one of these days when i"m less busy i'll make it a game and try to see how high of a percentage I can keep alive
