African frog laid eggs

Postby BirdGirl on Tue Jan 15, 2002 9:20 pm

Hiya,

I know this may not be the right board to post this on but i have an african frog who lives with one of my male bettas and today he/she laid eggs. I dont know much about these guys , i have had this frog for over a year and he had grown like crazy. Anyone have any suggestions? are these guys asexual (think that is what it is called) should i remove the little eggs and put them somewhere else? they dont seem to be eating them the eggs are just sitting on the bottom of the tank. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks a bunch!

Frogs have a sex and cannot be both at the same time.... there are some that can switch sexes if no females or males are available in a population however it would still require 2 frogs to fertilze the eggs. I dont know whether the variety you are talking about is capable of switching sexes however from what you said you only have one so that is a moot point... I would remove the eggs since they will just end up rotting. If you have the dwarf african frog then your chances of actually raising the young would be very slim, they are very very small and quite fragile, if you check my website I have some informaition on that variety under the "Interesting species" link.
