Getting them to tango...

Whats up?

Does anyone know if Auratus ever do any mouthbrooding? There are no fry in their tank, but my females lower jaw is larger then usual. Like its full of food (which its not) The male is also being pretty aggressive toward her which is common for this pair after a spawn.

You mean Melanochromis auratus right? They are mouth brooders, you have a couple females for the male? they let them out of their mouth like in 24 days or so i think.

Yeah they are mouth brooders alright.
If you can try and extract the fry from the mothers mouth into another tank for a better chance of survival.Once she lets them go they are impossible to catch in a large tank

Okay know I know. They are the strangest pair when it come to spawning that I know of!

Their first spawn they did not mouthbrood.

Their second spawn hatched as catfish. . .

And now they decide to spawn the way their sapost to?

Please understand my confusion. What next?

Well, I guess their parents never gave them that talk about the "Birds 'n bees etc.." so they had to figure everything out on their own :)
