BREEDING AN OSCAR WITH A TEXAS CICHLID

DOES ANYONE KNOW IF YOU CAN BREED A
MALE OSCAR WITH A TEXAS CICHLID?
I THINK MY FEMALE (T,CICHLID) LAID
EGGS AGAIN,BUT THIS TIME THEY ARE IN
THE GRAVEL AND MY OSCAR HAS BEEN SWIMMING WITH HER AND I HINK HE HAS
FEERTILIZED THEM,THEY BOTH HAVE BEEN HANGING OUTIN THE SPOT,AND I PUT SOME
FEEDERS IN THERE AND FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER MY OSCAR LET ONE SWIM
AROUND HIM.
THE CICHLID GOES FREAKY ANYTIME SOMEONE OR ANYTHING GOES BY THE TANK.
AND WHENEVER THE FEMALE IS NOT IN THAT SPOT THE OSCAR MOVES OVER THERE AND HANGS OUT,PLUS THE FACT THAT THEY
ARE RUBBING AROUND ALOT,LAST TIME I HAD TO SPLIT THEM UP.
THIS TIE I WANT TO PUT ON A NEIL DIAMOND CD AND OFFER
THEM A CIGARETTE.

One quick note: all caps is concidered yelling and is an indicator that you are upset... for future just remember to turn the caps lock off before you post.

As to the question of cross breeding I dont know the specifics for sure but I would think this is highly unlikely if not impossible. I know there is a theory that the blood parrot cichlid is a cross of two differant fish.

What you may be experiencing is both fish responding to the instinct to care for the eggs. Are the eggs white or tan/pink? This should tell you if the eggs are fertilized.

Hi,

Please keep us updated wheter ANY of the eggs actually hatch, I would really like to know. As far as "possibility" I don't know. From what I've read, the "red blood-parrot" is indeed a cross as Adam mentioned. I think it's supposed to be a cross between a green/gold severum and a red devil or something like that. I think they artificially fertilized the eggs though since I can't imagine a severum breeding with a red devil, or well at least breeding and "surviving"...

Dont count on it--the eggs hatching. Do to the difference in DNA. Each species has a different set of chromatin. Where as they ae genetically speaking from the same Kingdom, they are not in the same species or genus type. While it is remotly possiable if they are a super closely related species it is near impossiable. Our closest living ancestors (apes) can not impregnate a human or visa sersa (this is an example--Im not reccomending you go try this)

Your oscar is probly reacting to the release of phenomens.
