Getting them to tango...

Kenyi

I am trying very hard to mate my Kenyi. I have had trouble trying to find another male. I have only been able to find one, and he passed away. Here is my problem: I have 3 kenyi. My oldest is dark blue. I have always assumed it was a female. It is approx 4-5 years old and about 4 inches. I bought another kenyi about 3 mos. ago. It was slightly orange and then after a while turned blue. I assumed this was also a female. Two days ago I bought another much darker orange kenyi. This new one is just a baby. It is about 1 inch. When I dropped it in the tank the 3 mos old started the mating dance. The other fish began to get aggressive so i put the 2 in a seperate tank. The 3 mos old is blue, is it possible for a female to do the dance? or is it a male and may change to orange? My original male looked much more beautiful. It had very distinct colors. What should I expect? If anyone has any info on kenyi please let me know! If i have 3 females then I would also need to find someone who I can buy a kenyi from.

Well, all I know is they should follow the yellow/blue rule, Male sexual maturity coincides with the completion of the color metamorphosis, eight months after release, at 6cm (2.25 in.). Females mature concurrently, at 5cm (2 in.).
