Maybe electric yellows they look quite good what else???? All suggestions welcome as raising fry is the best and really satisfying..... let me know what you guys would breed , but smaller sized like the brichardi which get to approx 5-6 inches,

Cichlasoma meeki,(Fire-Mouth Cichlid)grows to about 6 inches in length from my understanding. For some basic info and pictures go to: http://www.foxvalley.elnet.com/~dricke/student/tbasciani/info12.htm

I have 3 Firemouths, red devil, jewel cichlid and one albino oscar in one of my tanks. Hey try breeding Jewel cichlid..?..?

which cichlid???

Postby fry on Tue Nov 21, 2000 8:39 pm

Hey everyone,
my fry (brichardi neolamprologus) are getting big about 1 inch, and the next batch have just raised there ugly little heads....so the parents are obviously happy in the tank which is good to know...this means i have approx 130 fry swimming in both my tanks the smaller ones still with the parents...
Just wondering though with the first lot of fry when i sepparated them from the parents tank and put them into there own tank it took a long time, i ended up having to take out all the rocks and plants and totally stripping the tank. This was a bit of a pain in the butt although the tank got a good gravel clean etc...Anyone got a way that is easier than this or a method that seems to work well, all suggestions welcome...Stripping back the tank though didnt bother the parents as the next batch of fry as i said earlier have just appeared Image...
Thanx Chichlid Breeder i might check out the electric blues they sound pretty cool do they get big and look good???? Also what makes the peacocks such a challenge might get some of those at some stage as well!!!!

Talk soon people Thanx for your comments.... fry Image

Electric blues are the way to go If you
can strat a 50 gallon tank use sand as the substrate make numerous combined caves with slate rock.Get one fully matured electric blue male and 3-6 females and get some peacock cichlids one fully matured male and
at least six females. The ph should be 8.2-8.5
for breeding condition and tempature 82-86.The peacocks need a lot of caves so breeding can be intended the more females the better chances of breeding adn lowers aggresion. For more info email me

Was thinking about that "gravel" problem. If you are using gravel as a kind of biological "filter", you might think about covering the gravel with some kind of very fine screen mesh so that only water could go through and not "fry" etc.......

That's a good idea...I'l bet it would keep out the large pieces of shredded food that sems to collect on the bottom too....that'd be much easier to clean.
Thanks Joe!

Yep, but on the other hand, your oscar won't be able to move the pebbles around ....so I guess would make sense to do only if your "main" purpose fo rthe rocks is as biofilter and not for your oscars to play with them Image
