Gen-Xer's hmmmmphhhhhh! That's all I have to say about that one. The member of the new generation was the one who responsibly suggested "r" reproductive strategies not r-rated bbs!

Hey Joe! Do you know the answer to that and you're teasing me or do you really want to know? If you don't know I'll give you a hint we humans use the "k" strategy and no k does not stand for kinky!!!

Sorry but that's what you get for teasing me on the other post. Eh hem according to my less than adequate ecology book: r is the variable for high population growth and r stratigist species( algae, bacteria, rodents, anual plants, and osteichthyes) are oppurtunistic, reproducing and dispersing rapidly. This means more smaller offspring that mature quickly to go exploit as many ecological niches as possible.
K is the variable representing carrying capacity. K strategists are classified as competitors and are generally large producing a few large offspring that take a relatively long time to mature but when they do they can compete for resources very efficiently. We are K strategists, so are elephants and birds. These are extremes. Most organisms fall between the two extremes but can be classified as one or the other.Got it?
