Bummer! I got home from work today and found all the eggs GONE! GONE GONE GONE! The only thing that could have happened was that the parents became cannibalistic. I must have really spooked them by wrapping the tank with the white poster papers.

What a disappointment... This is the second failure within a period of several weeks. Any chance that my oscars will mate again within the next few weeks or so?

Hi Kevin,

Sorry about that. They do say, that the first several batches Oscars may eat their eggs, I didn't have that experience but except once when I think the eggs were no good anyway. Next time you may want to take the eggs out and keep in separate tank. Don't be too disappointed though, first time is the hardest they can breed again as fast as two weeks. Just start conditioning them again etc....

I'm beginning to think that the oscars may have gotten hungry since I haven't fed them for two days. I initially tried feeding them pellets, but they didn't want any.

Don't try to rack your brains too much. It's not really your fault, Oscars all have different psyches, they're like women-you can't figure them out
I about let my pair starve and the tank get real dirty and they still laid eggs and didn't eat them etc...so things just happen, next time you'll be ready

You said that they can spawn again as early as two weeks. How the heck do they get so horny!?

I beleive the answer to that would be that they utilize "r" reproductive strategies as opposed to "k".

(they're so 'naughty' I even took their slate-rock out to stop them but they're trying to prepare a corner of the aquarium to lay again!) At least they "ain't a-fornicating" they 'all married...

Every two weeks is not bad considering their foreplay must last for days and maybe weeks!

I'll bet the female isn't complaining!! LOL
