Should I Be Worried?

Postby kurtrahn on Mon Aug 19, 2002 5:28 pm

Sorry to all if this is an idiotic question...I've only had my oscars for a couple months, so I'm a newbie.

I have two oscars. One seems to have developed some sort of condition, where it looks almost as if individual scales are falling off and I can see the flesh underneath. There also appears to be some sort of film on him (if you look at him from a frontal or rear angle. He seems to be just as feisty as ever, showing no signs whatsoever of fatigue or sickness and the normal huge appetite.

Since I got him, he's grown at almost double the rate of the other (they were initially about the same size when I bought them), so I kept telling myself he was just growing too fast for his "skin" to keep up. But this has been going on for over four weeks now with no apparent improvement. I've completely changed the water once already and done a 66% change as well, to no avail.

I would've thought it was some sort of disease (like "the Ick" or something), but the other oscar isn't displaying any symptoms at all.

Anyone have any insights?

Sounds simular to dropsy.
Is there any swelling?
What do you feed him?
Are you able to post a pic?

Gonna move this thread to Oscars since its oscar related.
