I a purchased a reddevil in Oct. 2000. I really dont know anything about it. If you could just give me any information, that would be nice.

I figuered that out the hard way. I already had to buy to Placos. And I went out and bought a freshwater stingray and he killed them. Hes bit my husbands finger! But we have had one Placo for a while know. Hes doing fine.

I got a male red devil that bites me. When cleaning his tank I partition off half the tank so I can get the job done without the worry of him getting him. He also rams the front of the tank when my kids look at him.
I got a litlle female red devil in another tank which I hope to breed. She is not so bad but cant be kept with anything smaller than 4 inches.
I tried the male once with a full grown oscar but it stressed the oscar too much. He was scared of it. My male red devil is 6 inches and the oscar just under 12 inches.

So yeah Red devils are really meant to be kept on their own. I have heard though that in tanks of over 300g they can be peacefull.

Also you know they grow just as fast as oscars if not faster and require a large tank as some can get over 14 inches.

If I did not like the look of them I would have gotten rid of mine as like you I found out the hard way with it killing tank mates.

I kind of like red devils because part of me likes that aggressiveness. But the truth is I really don't care much when one of them dies on me(maybe since I had a lot to start with). It's a whole different story with my oscars. Also, I wouldn't risk putting in devils with other fish that you really care about even if they are a LOT BIGGER. Red devils are real crafty, if you notice they go for the EYES. I'd torture my red devil if he blinded my oscar, man that devil would wish he was in Hell instead. Don't get me wrong I like them, but it's like comparing your kid to your dog, you love them both but heck if your dog mauled your kid what would you do
