Perfect Tank Setup

You might want to add some kind of underwater "corner" filters that use cotton as the filter media, I've found they're very good collecting the very small particles and it's a LOT cheaper than getting a magnum 350 to use the micron filter. Unfortunately in my opinion the "perfect" setup is not too good looking. I would not recommend gravel, but I would recommend some kind of "good" biological filtration which will make it so that you don't have to make water changes as often.(like using BioBalls or a BioWheel etc..) So perfect I'd say is more or less a bare tank with a vacuum siphon handy and no direct sunlight. And one piece of slate rock just in case Image

Keep in mind that oscars, especially bored oscars, are capable of destroying wimpy little corner filters.I'd say make your own filtration.I also think that oscars get bored with a bare tank.Just my opinion.Besides I don't mind water changes Image

You can even stick a powerhead in there. I've found them pretty effective or even the wisper overflow filters. Mabey a 30-60 just to assist with water movement and oxygenation of the water. They tend to not like anything thats new in that tank also and will try to move them to there specs. Image

Perfect Tank Setup

I have gravel in my tank, and although it looks nice, it's a royal pain in the butt to clean.. I also have a hang-in filter, I believe it's a whisper 300-350..something like that, and an undergravel filter, which I'm not sure does anything except embed the goo in the gravel!! LOL
I have frequent water changes where I vacuum the gravel, and it's very annoying. But when all is done, it looks like a nice tank... Image

Enjoy,

Well, if I still didn't have any worries and just stayed home most of the day and go consulting once in a while I'd care about how "pretty" the tank looked. But heck by the time I get home I need a flashlight, so I'm definitely not gonna work my butt off so the cat and the birds can enjoy the view....and if the oscars don't like the bare tank they can go right ahead and jump out Image actually all my oscars are very happy, well, except for one, the oddball who gets beaten up. I'm looking for a cheap BIG tank right now...like 350gallon or bigger ...later

If my tank wasn't in my living room, trust me, It wouldn't have any gravel in it!! My 10 gal. feeder tank (which is hiding inside the stand of the 75 gal.) doesn't have any gravel in it...Much much much easier to clean! Even my 25 gal tank only has one bag of gravel in it...it looks a little low, but I hate vacuuming gravel... Image
