Hi Gary,You can breed your oscars in a fifty-five gallon tank, but a larger one might be better. You also need a slate rock for them to lay their eggs on. Water tempature at 83-86 is ideal for breeding.

Hi Gary,

Just as Brandon said, you'll be fine with a 55-gallon to breed your oscars if they are not very large(like 12" or more). And yea use slate rock. One thing I should stress is that make sure you have enough OXYGEN. I've had a whole batch of fry almost completely out of the egg sac die on me because of not enough oxygen. Basically WARM water holds LESS Oxygen than COLD water. So if you go to like 86F you need to increase your oxygen output into the tank and make sure you have good water circulation at surface of water. I've been sick lately so sorry didn't get those oscar sexing pictures up this weekend:(
