I have a small pair of convicts in a 40 gal tank with fry. What would be an interesting partner?

even with a 40 gallon tank, you'll be running a risk adding anything to that tank. convicts are very aggressive when it comes to defending their fry. chances are, anything you add will get beaten up or killed. the only possible addition i could maybe see would be a salvini, because they stay around 6" which is good for your tank size, and are, from what i've heard, rather aggressive for their size.

In that breeding tank I would'nt reccomend another type of fish if you want to keep the fry in their with the parents. You could add 1-2 more pairs of convicts though.

i would only add 1 more pair max. they take up a huge territory when defending fry. i currently have a pair that take up half of my 75 gallon tank.
