Maybe. If the tank is big enough it's no problem either way.

Generally fish less then 6 inches in length are more likely to take to newcomers as Joe says the tank size is a primary factor to compatibility. The ratio is 50-60 gallons for 1 fish, and 20-30 gallons for ever fish there after, that is for adult size fish.

definitely get the new one soon, as i have found that oscars hit "puberty" so to speak at about 4-6" and males will fight with other males, perhaps to the death. you'll need at least 75 gallons to accomodate 2 oscars. if you do this, you should be ok.
