Green Terror

Postby Damo on Sun Sep 23, 2001 6:25 pm

Well I finally purchased a Green Teror and put him in with a lone Convict of the same size (1.5"). The Convict was a bit upset with his new tankmate and when he was finally added the Convict slowly went after him, Gills a flarin'. After about 6 good nips from the Convict and the GT had about enough of that and defended himself quite well, and now is dominate over the two.

Peace has overcome there tank now and they both swim togehter peacfully and are feeding well.

Question I have is, while feeding the GT and Convict flakes, pellets, Frozen brine and Beefheart, what kind of growth rate can I expect from both cichlids. They are in a 20 high for now

Thanks

the GT will grow faster than your convict. to tell you the truth, cons usually never get about 6-7 inches in the aquarium. i never really raised a GT, so my guess is .7 of an inch a month? the con will take a while to grow. maybe 1 inch in 3-4 months? iono

GTs get to about 23 cm which is about 10 to 11 inches.
They will eat almost anything and dont grow too fast but I am unsure of what rate.

Keep an eye on him as they are very vicious

Oscar, I have heard so many conflicting stories about GT's that I don't know what to believe anymore lol. SO I figured what the heck I will buy a baby and raise it and see what happens. I am trying to grow out the GT quickly so I can add him to my Oscars without to much worry about him being bullied. I plan on switching him with a Red Oscar that is being bullied. That red I have has no backbone and even back away from my clown loaches :- /

I have a GT in with 2 of my oscars and a Jewel cichlid and they leave each other alone. I admit that they are trouble with other fish like convicts etc (even amongst their own kind).

Yeah I have heard all the stories too but I think your best off finding out yourself as its not all the same.

live foods (feeder fish, meal worms, earth worms, etc) complimented with a good food stick or pellet diet will speed up growth. from most places i've read and heard that green terrors are actually much more passive than their name suggests. all fish have their own personality, though. a lot of times, fish will become more aggressive than normal if not given enough space to claim a territory. if given proper tank space, most species will co-habitate with each other.
