What else can I add????

Postby O'sareus on Thu Sep 27, 2001 2:19 pm

Question: What would be good to put with a JD and an O. Remember my Jd is not agressive and prefers to stay out of sight. My O on the other hand loves to have all the attention when I walk up to the tank and follows me around the room.MY tank is 75 gallon and I have a fluval 404. Both fish are full grown.
Thanks in advance

did u raise your oscar and JD at the same time? i dont think that it is that wise to add another fish when all the fish in the tank are already accustomed. but if u want to try, try a green terror or something in that similar size. usually the newest addition in the tank is the shyer one. o yah, dont add another oscar or JD

Try bottom level fish. Some cool attractions that would work are:

*Sting Rays (visitors love them),
*eels (fire track eels will add moe color and compliment the O)
*a Large ghost knife (very neat looking fish, swimming is adorable).

I dont think I would recommend adding a stingray... fresh water varieties are really brackish water fish and can attain diameters of up to or over 2'. I think a much larger tank would be needed for one of them then a 75 gallon... just my opinion though.

yah, i would have to agree with adam, the FW rays get big in diameter. also, the ghost knife would probably end up dead or too big. the black ghost knife (if thats what you're refering to) is a lot more mellow than the other knifefish. i heard its really shy, best kept in a large (prolly 125+) community tank, like gouramis etc. they get about 39" but i really doubt it can get that size in an aquarium, however, a 75 isnt big enough anyways. if you go with the eel, make shure it can have a place to hide..maybe a up-side down pot with a small entrance. also, make shure it'll get its fair share of food.
so basicly, go with the eel or maybe clownloachs (they get about 12" tho).

you could try a green terror, texas, mayan (cichlasoma uropthalmus). you'll need to remove the 2 you have and introduce the new fish for about half an hour or so and i'd rearrange the tank before re-introducing the oscar and dempsey. also, you could get some feeders to distract the oscar and dempsey so the new fish can get accustomed to the tank. make sure there's an available hiding space for the new fish also.
