i dont know the rare ones, but the common ones might be..

-wolf cichlid (dovii)
-red devil cichlid (there are 3 kinds of devils)
-convicts..pretty aggressive for their size
-red terror cichlid
-jack dempsey cichlid
-jaguar cichlid (manguenses)
-green terror cichlid

in my opinion, the red devil is the most common fish you can find...its the most aggressive too.

I'd say with the right size tank red terrors are the most aggressive out of that list by far

My opinion is red devils

Has anyone noticed the name similiarities with cichlids?

Terrors
Convicts
Devils
Wolfs
jaguars

Its kind of funny when you think about it.

Wolf Cichlids (Parachromis Dovii) make red devils look like goldfish.(Sorry Candice Image )
They eat other cichlids

But I wouldnt reccommend one unless you got at least a 100g tank for their eventual size of 24 to 30 inches

which fish to choose?

I only speak from expierience...Ive never had the "pleasure" of dealing with a wolf cichlid. The red devil was enough for me. I prefer the cichlids with great personality that can be put with a couple other types and get along peacefully.

Some people may be attracted to aggressive fish, but I personaly think that when people want super aggressive fish they want to perhaps show people "fish fights" wich I think is as bad as set up dog fights. not to mention cruel.

There is a time and place for super aggressive fish, in my opinion the place is in a solitary tank adequete to house him, with no other tank mates. My red devil will spend the rest of his life in a 40 gal alone.

Same here too Candice
I would never let my wolf tear up another cichlid, He will eventually have his own tank if I decide to keep him (I really got him to make a profit on down the track)
My red devil breeding pair are in a tank of their own and I would never put any of them into a community tank

wolf cichlid (p. dovii)
3-spot trimac (c. trimaculatum)
red terror (a. festae)
red devil (a. labiatus)
blue freckled monster (c. umbriferum)
salvini (c. salvini)
jaguar (h. managuense)
buttikoferi (t. buttikoferi)

these are among the most aggressive freshwater species. green terror and jack dempsey pale in comparison to the potential aggression of these. all (dovii possible exception) can be kept in large cichlid community tanks if given enough room. oscars are hardly aggressive at all towards other large cichlids, however male oscars will often fight to the death if not given enough space.
