ICH??!!!

Postby DRMEL1 on Fri Jun 29, 2001 12:54 am

OK, the good news is that after FIVE and a HALF weeks my water was finally ready for my long awaited SEVERUMS (I bought 2 green and one gold -- beauties!!)... The bad news is that 2 short days later they broke out in white spots!!
WHY?? Was it the shock from going from the dirty looking pet store water to my newly cycled tank?? I am really upset about this!
I bought some of those drop in tablets that fiz and do not require increased temperature.
I'll do a 25% water change after 24 hours and add a second dose. Is there anything else I could do??
None of my other fish (Mollies, Rasbora, Danios and a Betta) have ever had ICH,
Do fish usually come out OK from this?

ICH??!!!

ich is usually really easy to cure and from what I have read, you can never cure ich it stays with a fish forever, just in a healthy fish it is always in a dormant state. Any stress that reduces a fishes immune system can trigger an outbreak. Add salt and the temp to 82 and keep the water nice and clean for about a week and you should notice it going away. You can also add medications just be sure to remove your charcoal.

ICH has a cycle of a week. 2 days its in a mucus stage, breaks open and has 2 days to find a host, once found it lives on the host for 3 days. You can not kill ICH for the 3 days its on the fish and for the 2 days its in the mucus stage. So you have 48 hours to treat and kill ICH. This is why you need to treat ICH with meds for one week. Take all charcoal out of your filters, and follow the instructions on your meds.

Fish can make it through after having ICH without any problems. ICH is generally caused from stress. Durring the ICH phase, and once treated if stress is kept up, it can cause popeye, among other gill diseases. Keep your water temp. up and good luck.

ICH??!!!

chill....ich is the most common and easily treated disease. just add rock salt( not table) in the tank. the formula for it is 1 tablespoon for 10 gallons of water. now, ich is usually caused by a large tempeture drop or something that will cause alotta stress. just add the salt. if u want to get this thing over fast, add medication and take out your carbon.
