Sexing Marbled Convict?

How do can you tell if you got a male or female marble convict?

I bought one today and I think it's a female. But it doesn't have an orange belly and it dosn't have a bump on the head.

Can a marble con breed with a striped con?

The only way I know to sex convicts is with the methods you mentioned you may have to wait until the guy you have starts to show one of the signs, I dont know if there are any other ways though.

Sexing Marbled Convict?

I have a mating pair of convicts and my female only has an orange belly when she is going to lay eggs. My male doesn't have a bump on his head. The only way to tell smaller convicts apart is by the size of their fins. My male is slightly larger and he has longer fins. He doesn't have a bump on his head yet. I have had 2 litters of fry and so i am sure that this method of sexing them will work. It would be hard to do however unless the fish are together. My convicts are about 2 1/2" (female) and the male is close to 3".
I dont think that you should have any trouble getting them to breed as long as you have a hiding place or a flat spot for them to lay their eggs. It takes around 1 1/2 to 2 months for them to cycle through and have more fry.

I hope that this helps you even a little bit.

look for the orange belly on the female. and, yes, the marble and striped cons would be able to breed.
