Can anyone out there help me,please. It's been 3 weeks now and I am getting concerned. I had the water checked,it's good. He lives alone in a 29 gallon tank. I had him about 1 year and never had a problem.

how big is your red devil. 29 gallon is awefully small to keep a full grown red devil, but i'm not sure quite how quickly they grow. i have one, a midas actually, in a 75 with a few other cichlids and have had no problems yet, but he's still pretty small. just wondering.

jrskbm, my red devil is about 3-4 inches long. He has'nt been himself for a long time and I am very worried. They said that he's eating because he's still alive. He use to come up to the tank when I fed him, but now he hides. There are little snails all over the tank, which I never had before. Do you know anything about parasites? Do you think I should feed him live fish? Can you help me I am desperate.

Your Red Devil should be fine. Mine is around 4.5" or larger. He used to come to the top of the tank to feed everytime. He went through this phase where he wouldn't ever come up but rather hide in the rocks. Now he is back to himself and comes up to feed, but still not all the time.

Your snail problem should be taken care of by your Red Devil. He should eat them right out of there shells. Sometimes the snails will attach themselves to the heater and just die. I am not 100% sure if there is a chemcial alternative to rid you of your snails.

I do not recommend feeding live fish unless you personally breed your own feeder fish. Reason being is simply because fish stores do not take care of their feeder fish at all. Mainly cause they are sold so fast. They are fed a junk diet and hence will rob your Red Devil of nutrients, not to mention a possible diease infestation of your tank.

S42K,WOW! Thank you for your information on your Red Devil. I feel so much better now knowing someone else had the same problem. My Red Devil comes out when I feed him but then he goes back behind the plants. I never see him eat, not like I use to. What size tank do you have your Red Devil in? Do you have any other fish in with your Red Devil? What kind of food do you feed him? Snowdrop

Glad I could be of some help >.=) My Red Devil is in a 55 gallon with around 5-6 caves made up of large rocks, and 2 fake plants. Gravel bed, one pleco, one black fin shark (2.5"), one pesudotrophlous salinas, one ob white zebra, and last but not least I have this darker grey with yellow tail fish. Looks like the zebra/salinas just forgot the name sorry.

In my other tank which is a 60 gallon tank, I have one Red Devil, one Jewel Cichlid, one Texas Cichlid, one crawfish, and my favorite fish one 6 stripe Frontosa. That tank has a gravel bed, and 3 caves.

As to food, I feed them hikari cichlid pellets and tetra cichlid flake food. Once in awhile they will receive frozen brime shrimp as a treat.
