Hello everyone,
My name is Jessica and I have had Oscars in the past but my current Oscar I have had for about 15 months. My husband cleaned his tank on Tuesday (two days ago) and ever since when we turn off the lights at night he will flip out and throw himself around. He has caused several lacerations to the top of his head, his mouth, and his belly. He will not eat either. I am very worried because I do not want him to die. My husband treated the water with algae treatment and I wonder if that has something to do with his erratic and dangerous behavior. During the day and when the lights are on he will just float around, sometimes sitting for periods at the top and sometimes at the bottom. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. NEVER EVER treat your tank for algae!! I have heard of ppl KILLING their fish from this.. to keep algae at bay, just do water changes and DO NOT FEED him more than once a day!! Keep the lights off in the day and make sure sunlight does not get into the tank.. KEEP the filter cleaned weekly to by-weekly too as this can help feed the algae if not keep cleaner than normal..

Algae on the deco is a take it out and scub it deal. IF on the glass, get a magnet and clean it off that way.. Algae in the water as in it is green, U do NO lights in the day time and cut back on feeding.. All of this means U have high nitrates and U delute them down with water changes and VAC the gravel good. All deco needs to be scrubed good in the sink..

U need to do a GOOD water change and run carbon in the filter to remove the algae killer ASAP!! this wil help him out greatly.. IF U have not done so as this is LATE!!

My Oscar did the same thing when U turned the lights off. HE would also fare and spash at U if they were not ON before the room got dark!! I dont' think they like the dark at all! Mine would stay by the heater when the light was on and would not leave it until the next day.. weird for sure..
