Dimidiochromis Compressiceps

Postby S42K on Sat Apr 07, 2001 12:32 am

Anyone have or bread these fish? I am thinking of getting a pair. They seem to be an interesting fish. Very narrow and almost barracuda looking. If so what other types of fish did/do you currently have with them?

Thanks,

I hear they are not too good with other fish and like too eat their victims eyes (no kiddin).
They like a ph of 8,temp 80, eat brine shrip, algea and small fish. They reach a max 0f about 9 inches and are mouth brooders.

Dimidiochromis Compressiceps

They are known as "eye bitter." But that only holds true for F0 wild cought species. Captive bread F1 or higher Compressiceps are mostly meat eaters but are not the aggressive wild type. I know the female will find a cave big enough for her but not big enough for the male to get into. He guards the territory. Also I believe they reach 1" in size in about 5-6 months. Have a brood of 50-100 as well. They seem to be a very interesting fish as well as looks. Very stream lined.

Hi s42k
I`ve heard the opposite that the male will find a cave big enough for him and the female sleeps on top of the cave except when danger is around and the female goes in first with the male behind her.
Im only going by what Ive read, they do seem very interesting. I`ve seen a few nice colourfull ones.

Hi TONY S, I have read also on internet sites etc. weird... Anyways they had a male just like in your pic you provided. The female was all silver with a tad of gold on her fins. They were a mating pair. Extreamly narrow though when looking head on with them. The pics do not due justice for these fish. They were too expensive I thought here for $129/pr. Just looking to get into some other fascinating fish and just happen to come across these.

Well some mailorder places sell the Dimidiochromis Compressiceps for 3" for $11 and 4"+ for $21 each. These breeding pair were I'd say 6" in length.
