Is this Hole in the Head - New Oscar Owner

Postby Tran455 on Fri Sep 12, 2008 1:51 am

Hello Everybody,

I recently bought two tiger oscars from petsmart and they both seem to be doing very well. I keep them in a 60 gallon tank furnished with gravel. I was instructed to feed them at least twice a day until they get a little bigger (2 inches right now).

Just today, I noticed two dents on the side of the oscar's head (it becomes very easy to see when they change colors). Is this natural or is it HITH? I don't think it's HITH because I have a very powerful filter hooked up to the tank and a secondary filter as well. I feed the oscar everything from: store bought pellets, to frozen brine shrimps, and to frozen bloodworms. They seem to enjoy all of it and they have been eating the plants I keep in the tank as well. So I don't think it's a nutritional issues or anything of the sort, but I would just like to be safe.

The other thing I noticed is that, only one oscar seemed to have developed the two dents on its head. Surprisingly, it's the same one that pig out whenever it's feeding time. Is there something that I am missing here? Thanks for helping me out, everybody!

Finally, I noticed some very very very small white sponts on my oscar's fins, is that normal? It doesn't appear to be ich or anything like that, and doesn't seem to be spreading either.

Oscars have sensory holes in their heads, some are more visable than others,,

With the spots it might be best to treat with some aquarium salt and raise the temp a bit just in case.
