Convicts in a 10 gallon tank?

Postby escaped convict on Mon Apr 02, 2001 2:30 pm

I know convicts should not be housed in a 10 gallon tank. But has anyone tried it before? And how long did you house them in there?
Second question, I tought I had a female convict. But the other day another convict started changing colors also. It's stomach is also turning orange. Is this also a female? I have three convicts, and they are about 3/4" to 1" long. Can their sexes be determined at this small sizes?

Thanks,

Long as you keep the water perfect they should be right for a few months but you should really look for another larger tank before they get too big. Sorry I cant answer your other queries and hope someone else here does so soon.

orange stomachs mean f-male 3 cons donot do well in a ten.ecsp if 2 maybe femaleyou can have a pair in a ten gallon for years and i do mean years.but after a cluthc is born it is not a must but very possible youl need to remove the male.if your eager enough you can put a devider batween the to females and drop the male on one side and they will breed.the ecxact will happen on the otherside.still you will have to most likely remove the male after your clutch has hatched.no dried foods if possible.try frozen blood worms or as ive told everyone else earth worms and night crawl.to get the best result out of your cons breeding.now if you dont want them to breed remove the male and the females will coinside for a while.you will eventualy have to upgrade your tank on any circumsatanses
