Their current valid name is Vieja synspila although most people use Vieja synspilus.
Most of them in the hobby are pond bred in florida or asia from stock that has mixed collection orgins from Mexico or Guatemala but theres a few people breeding decient lines or getting wild fish from time to time.
just a generalization - like with all fish some individuals may differThey aren't as bold as oscars when it comes to begging for food and rushing to the front of the tank.
But with tank mates they are more aggressive. (central americans often are)
Their habitat is rivers , streams and lakes but good luck with adding plants synspilus will often eat them.
