90 gallon

Postby MilosM on Fri Dec 14, 2007 7:46 pm

Hey all,
I was thinking of keeping, an oscar, a jack, and a green terror, along with a severum and firemouth, and possibly a convict in my 90 gallon.  Is that gonna be overstocked?  Just wondering with good filtration if it'll work out.

Thanks for any input!

For a while, if they're young.  The real problem with that group in that tank isn't the filtration -- it's the territoires.  In that size tank -- I assume you're talking about a standard 4-foot 90 -- there just isn't a lot of floor space by the time all those get their growth (about a year).  Once they're grown, I believe the territorial disputes will make things very tough in there.  Lots of stress.

yeah I was thinking of the agression problem.  It's hard to find a cichlid tank that will work.  I guess a 90 gallon could make a pretty cool tropical tank though.

I was just looking at some of my fish, and a few of them look like they're getting white spots gathering on them, they look like tiny bubbles, although white.  Anyone have any ideas as to what this could be?

I wouldn't write it off as a cichlid tank -- it would work fine depending on your choice of fish.  The group you mention is just a couple too many, IMO.  As to the spots -- you say they look like bubbles.  Could they in fact be bubbles?  Have you changed the water very recently?  Sometimes you can get bubble that way.  If the spots look more like grains of salt, I'd be concerned about Ich.  Here's a link with some info:

Afraid i have to agree with DanRad on this one.

You'd get away with a pair of any of those without any problems, matched up with a could of big dither fish, and a few bottom feeders.

Or

You can go for three from the list at a push.

Id avoid the green terror (ive kept acaras in the past and their a royal pain to keep with anything else), the convict (also pretty aggressive for their size) and the fire mouth (little too small and too frigile if they get bumped about)

From what i hear, jacks and oscars are a classic mix (one likes to hide, one is a show off)

Severums and oscars are also apparently a good option, but ive never had the guts to try it.

As for the bubbles- Sounds like ICH.

What fish do you have already, and what size tank are they in?

Best of luck
Craig
