NO that is not good. UNLESS he has already fertilized the eggs. Most Oscars do eat the first eggs and maybe the secound ones too. IF the male has not fertilized them, the eggs are not good anyway. IF he has and you saw this, then removing him was a good deal.

Yes, the eggs wil turn to a yellowish tint. White means they are not fertile and fugus has them. Those are the ones the oscars should eat. It is hard for them to just pic off the white ones with out getting some of the good ones too. I do hope U have another tank to house the fry in?? A 55 is good for this..

The only sure way to sex an Oscar is by venting the fish. This means removing it from the water, and looking at the shape of the "vent". In Males the "vent" is triangular shaped, and in a female, its is oval. The fish needs to be at least six months old, to get it right, and the person looking, needs to be experienced at venting fish. I would not recommend, trying to vent a fish, unless you have seen someone, or been shown how by someone who knows.
As for breeding Oscars, they are fairly easy to breed, if you get a breeding pair.

Fertilized Oscar eggs, are beige, and unfertilized eggs, are white.
