Convict and Albino Tiger

Postby ILLYOUNG on Mon May 21, 2007 6:27 pm

I have a 40 gallon tank and I am want to put a 3inch Albino Tiger and about a 5 to 6 inch Convict. Will there be a problem since the convict is bigger and more aggressive. They will both be put in at the same time out of different tanks. Thanks!!

You can try it, but keep a very close eye on them, and have a Plan B.  My guess is that the convict will make the little O's life pretty miserable.

my 3 inch female con used to torment my O  Till I had to remove her and that was a 5 to 6 inch O she put the boot to in a 55 so  I'd make sure you have a tank ready to go and watch for the boiling point.  Good luck.

Then I am not going to do it. Not only because you say, but because I know what this convict can do. Right now he is in a 20 gallon tank because he killed one of my O's in a 55 gallon tank. They were about the same size and in 1 night he killed him. But I want him because he has a nice color with a little blue and purple on him. What other types of fish can I put with an aggressive convict? And how many is good for a 40 gallon tank?

If you have another large fish in a different tank, you could always get him a mate they would be more then happy in a 40 and will produce lots and lots of clean disse free treats every 2 to 4 weeks for you other fish,  but if you have nothing to get rid of the fry with I would stay away from a female.,  Maybe a firmouth but really not sure I've had cons that are just mean and some that get along great with other fish but in a tank that small I'd say you will get fights no matter what you choose unless its a con of the opposite sex and even then theres no 100% way to be sure they will get along.

I had my Oscars with 2 convicts. They were a pair, and the male was mean to everything else but not to my Oscar. But then, my Oscar's were 7inches and he was like 2. hah.

As long as the Oscar is like twice as big it should be okay. But not if their both small. It does depend on the personality of the Oscar. If he defends himself, then it'd be okay, I think. It's kind of a toss up. Probably better not to risk it if he already killed an Oscar.
