Dark JD

Postby jamesb on Sat May 12, 2007 6:50 pm

I just wondering if anyone may know why my Female JD is so dark,  She has grey on top but her sides and belly are black.  I thought it may be stress as I recently found out she had paired with my male and there where two other females in the tank.  I took the other JDs out so it is now 1, 3 -3 1/2in. male 1, 1 1/4 - 1 1/2in. female now with fry and one 3 1/2in. Chinese algae eater who for the most part stays clear of the JDs at all cost.  I tested my water and all is fine, as far as hidding places there are lots 3 clay pots of varying size,  rock formations and caves and some bog wood in the tank to comfort the skittish nature but she is still jet black.
Any one have this happen or know what may help relax her?
Also if it makes a difference she was this colour when I got her and was banged up pretty good  as the lfs had her in with Africans. She has since grow back her fins but has never lightened in colour.
Thanks.

Stress is a part of it, new tank, water conditions off, pH, Hardness: KH/GH might be to high for her but she should ajust, and others in the tank all play a factor.. But she should turn later on back to the normal coloring.. NO worries...
So you already have fry?? She seems to young to have fry now, but hey, fish never do what they are surposed too.. Mine has NEVER had any fry.. figures.. she is a good 4 years old now.. Goofie fish any way...  tmbsup
