Getting them to tango...

blue acaras

would PH affect the spawning capabilities of blue acaras?  I've had them for about 4 months now and I have big smooth rocks and smaller smooth rocks and even a piece of slate at an angle, not to mention the clay pot for them to hide in.  I have a very high PH, like in the mid to high 8's.  would this affect them so much?

Hi, Samanthia!  It might.  Acaras have been in the hobby long enough that they should be tolerant of your water, but it may be too much of a stretch to breed in that pH.  Stick with them for awhile -- keep up your water changes, give them a nice diet, and see how it goes.  There are a number of strategies for keeping the pH levels down -- filtering through peat moss, RO units, etc.  Evem of they don't breed, you still have the fish to enjoy, and you don't have to worry about finding homes for the fry!
