Hi all...

I have a Jack Dempsey approximately 3.5 years old. About a month ago,
I noticed a lump growing from the bottom portion of his gill. It was clearish
in color with a red substance breaking through it. Well now the thing is huge.
It is hanging from his gill about 3/4 of an inch and is starting to grow fungus on
it. When I first noticed it, The pet store told me is sounded like an ulcer and gave
me treatment for it but it has not helped. I don't know what to do and can't find
anything on the net that resembles this. I am putting in the treatment for
the fungus today but what about the huge growth that's causing it? Please help...

Could be some kind of tumor.  The fungus is probably a secondary bacterial infection.  Try adding a teaspoon or two of salt per gallon of water.  Can you post a picture? 

Thanks for the response. Here is a picture. Will adding the salt have any affect
on the other fish in the tank? I also have 2 plecos an Oscar, a goldfish and a few catfish
in a 90 Gallon tank. Thanks again.

I can't really make it out, but it doesn't look good.  Maybe someone else here has a more educated eye.  Might be worthwhile to have a vet look at it.
