Fire mouth Meeki

what about firemouth meekis?  I have a 55 gal, would that work for a breeding pair? :tongue8:

Yes, firemouths are neat cichlilds to have. They flare at you with the red gills and it looks neat.. The only concern you should have is getting the fry GONE.. Firemouths are very easily had, so finding homes for them may be a problem..
Are you going to have more fish in this tank with them?? Their are good and bads if you do.. A pair will protect the nesting site and drive away the others.. Best to have their NEST at the far end of a tank.. Others in the tank will help in keeping the fry count down..

If your main goal is breeding them , (IMO) a rarer type Thorichthys  (many look similar) would be easier to move out.

ok i have 4 juv. firemouths in a 55 who I'm waiting to pair up. I also have 2 blue acaras and one baby parrot. And a reticulated hillstream loach that all the cichlids leave alone, and 2 turquoise rainbows, the village idiots compared to the cichlids.
