i have 2 baby oscars about 1 1/2 to 2 inches. i bought 1 and put him in the tank with a jack dempsey a jewel cichlid and a couple other africans and a plecostamas. they all get along fine but the oscar seemed to just hang in one corner nearthe top on his side, about a week later after doing some internet browzing i picked up another oscar and put it in the tank, the 2 are now inseperablein the tank. rarely are they more then 2 inches apart the first seems to stand guard over the second chases the other fish away at feeding time so the oether can eat without diruption. i was wondering if it is possible that they are male and female or if this is just natural behavior for them. i have them in a 75 gallon and am currently setting up a 55g and am going to seperate the africans into it and keep my south american in the 75g.

It could be anything. Two females will stick together, and 2 males will sometimes.

I don't know the sex of my two 7-ish" but they will NOT leave each other alone. They are inseperable, they show all mating signs, and hover over my slate together and clean it off, but haven't had any eggs yet.

They can do all the mating behaviors, and be both female. Oscars are tricky.

The only way to get a pair is to buy like 6 and let them pair up and then keep a pair and get rid of the rest.

i dont care about a pair or anything like that, my curiosity was just peaked, i love their little personalities, they are my only fish that dont run from me when i approach the tank, i could never try for a pair, if i bring anything home it is there to stay.
